I like using lentils & sautéed veggies. My teenage son likes using the Gardein Beefless Crumbles. He kept his sauce recipe a secret for awhile but agreed to include below.
These are great for kids to get involved in making because unlike ground beef you do not need to worry about undercooked food.
Our sauce is heavy on the BBQ flavor but you can modify ingredients and portions to your liking. Have fun with it!
If you want to use veggies, such as chopped onion or pepper, start by sautéing them. While sautéing, you can make your sauce.
My Son's Not-So-Secret Slappin' Sloppy Joe Sauce
1/4 c. ketchup
1/2 c. BBQ sauce
1/2 tsp yellow mustard
Dash of salt
Protein Options
You can toss in a 14 oz can of lentils (drained and rinsed). The other option is a 1 1/2 cup of Gardein Beefless Crumbles. Makes about 3 sandwiches.
